Hi There,
Hoping to take over ownership of a Prelude 19 shortly, and have registered on here. I will be honest and say I am a complete sailing novice. I recently bought a Fletcher GTO speedboat that I enjoyed doing up, but cannot say I am enjoying using. Speed on water isn't for me, and its a faff having to put it in/out the water every time we want to use it.
Will be going for lessons with my father in law who has just recently bought a Skipper 12.
Going to be sailing on Loch Long in Argyll, and I can keep this moored during the summer and undercover over winter. Should be able to go for nice sails around the local area which is more what I think we will enjoy.
So.....anything I should be looking for/checking on a Prelude. To be honest, the one I am looking at looks to have been extremely well looked after and fussed over. It's a twin keeled (apologies if my terminology is wrong) version.
Thanks in advance
Alastair

Hi Alastair
I started much in the same way like you. I also believed that gently cruising powered by wind was my thing.
I went on a 5 day course as "Competent Crew" to gain some experience and later on I did another 5 day Course for "Day Skipper" In the meantime I did all the reading I could.
After that I bought a Prelude and when I finally started sailing her I discovered that it was much simpler than I thought or expected. She is a very easy boat to sail and if you start gently on fair weather conditions and not too strong winds, you'll soon gain the experience and the confidence.
All the best

Woohoo......I am now the very proud owner of Shearwater. Have to say I was a bag or nerves towing her back up the VERY twisty roads as I drove her up towards Glasgow. The pictures of Harris's boat lying on the motorway were haunting me.
She is now tucked up safe and sound under cover.

Congratulations Alastair
I hope and pray that you'll get immense pleasure by sailing Shearwater.
Please let me have your surname so that I could update our Members' page.
Would you be keeping her in Ardentinny?
Best Regards

Hi Briguy,
Got any pictures of Suilven? We look over onto Inverary on our drive up to Ardentinny every weekend. How do you find sailing a Prelude around these parts?

Re: Hello! Potential New Owner
Hi Alistair, no pics of Suilven at present, will post as soon as possible.
Have been on Loch Fyne for several years now with both power and sail, sail being my preference.
Previously had a Westerly Peagant, and Suilven my second Prelude.
I thoroughly enjoy Loch Fyne, sailing to Tarbert, round Ardlamont Point and through the Kyles to Rothesay...beautiful.
